Information About MediaScan

MediaScan is a database of selected article extracts appearing in the major Australian newspapers. It does not provide full text of the articles, you will need to keep your own copies of the newspapers for up to twelve months. The search capabilities allow students to easily access articles about various relevant issues and topics. The students may then decide which articles interest them, prepare and print a list and proceed to your newspaper stack to locate the flagged items easily.


MediaScan is specifically designed for use by students in Australian schools, TAFE Institutes and Universities.

Librarians - MediaScan incorporates the following features to make your job that little bit easier:

  • Current issues indexed as they happen.
  • Student friendly access by searching by keywords in all fields.
  • Easy to install, with ongoing telephone support. Electronic Mail Support.
  • No information overload, controllable searching via exclude button.
  • SCIS reference headings.
  • Compatible with Oasis and Alice for Windows library circulation systems. (or stand alone terminals)
  • Updates available by Internet, Email or mail (floppy disk or CD).
  • Maintenance menu in set up which enables the administrator to customise MediaScan e.g. selection of appropiate papers and date range.
  • Capacity to send the selected print information to a personal email address.
